The crater developed 3 million years ago as a result of internal forces beneath the earth’s crust. It is a Caldera but is incorrectly referred to as a Crater; supported by year-round water supplies and food, Ngorongoro sustains a diverse range of animal species.
Another major lure to this unique Crater is the large population of predators, which includes lions, hyenas, jackals, and cheetahs, which can be difficult to locate at times. You will travel to Lake Magadi, a huge but shallow alkaline body of water.
