The Mafia Archipelago in the Indian Ocean belongs to Tanzania and includes Mafia Island. The Mafia Island Marine Park shields significant portions of the island’s southern shore and the waters around it. Many coral reefs in the park are the habitat of animals like whale sharks and sea turtles. There are beaches in the south, such as the remote Ras Kisimani, which lies near Bwejuu Island.
The hidden sandbars, whale shark migration, nesting turtles, and laid-back atmosphere of Mafia make this island really magical.
Tour of a whale shark
One of the best things Mafia Island has to offer is swimming with whale sharks. The longest whale shark ever recorded measured 12.8 meters, making them the largest fish in the water.
Our tour will start at 7 am and last for two to five hours. There is no certainty that we will find whale sharks because they are wild animals. Whale sharks are discovered on 80–90% of our cruises.
Diving with snorkels,
Experience the abundant coral in Mafia with a snorkeling trip. Octopus, moray eels, turtles, and seahorses might be seen. After that, we’ll travel to a remote sandbar to have a local BBQ meal and some downtime. You will go to Chole Island in the afternoon, where you will take a leisurely walking tour. You will see the ruins, observe local life, learn how traditional dhows are built, and even get to witness the neighborhood’s Flying Fox bats, the largest bats in the world!
sunset cruise
Come along for an enjoyable boat cruise to view the stunning Mafia Island sunset. You are welcome to go swimming whenever you choose. Drinks can be purchased in advance at the bar and transported in the cooler. This 1.5-hour tour lasts.
